EAST MALVERN capped off a memorable season beating Oakleigh Districts in the Southern Football League Division 2 grand final.
In a tight game that could have gone either way, East Malvern were able to snatch some late goals to win 14.10 (94) to 12.11 (83).
East Malvern took the early lead in a dour struggle and was able to stay in front for most of the day.
Taking a seven-point lead into quarter-time, the victors never had much breathing space as both teams traded goals for much of the next two quarters.
Will Sadler played brilliantly at the half back line while Trent Hotton did his best to impress the vote givers.
In the final term East Malvern captain Mitch Ferguson kicked a booming goal from outside 50, before Oakleigh rallied to take the lead.
But a 50-metre penalty to Jeremy Lumsden resulting in goal saw Malvern claw back victory at Jack Barker Oval.
Hotton took out the best-on-ground medal while Simon Hart finished the day with six classy goals, including two out of mid-air.
The result means East Malvern will now play in the top SFL division next season.
