The manager and style director of Cast Salon in North Fitzroy tells us where she goes to ...
Get some culture? I live in Brunswick West, so I don’t have to go far. Step outside my door and it’s a short stroll to Melville and Sydney roads and there’s lots of culture, from the really cool Middle Eastern pastry shops and gift shops too! Jump in my car and I’ll drive to Victoria Street, Richmond for amazing Vietnamese food. Culture to me is all about exploring tastes!
Go to relax? Edinburgh Gardens in Fitzroy North with the girls, my dog Mr Murphy and bottle of vino (of course) to soak in the sun.
Unleash your inner child? The Royal Melbourne Zoo (Elliott Avenue, Parkville), just to see the elephants and the little penguins.
Indulge yourself? With my favourite flowers – tulips – from Flowers Vasette (247 Brunswick Street Fitzroy, call 9419 4988). My mother told me a girl should always have fresh flowers in the house.
Spend your last $10? On salty liquorice from Piedemonte’s Supermarket (37-49A Best Street, North Fitzroy, call 9481 1600). Being brought up in Finland, salty liquorice reminds me of home.
Buy something new? OPI nail polish (in Cajun shrimp colour) from David Jones (310 Bourke Street, city, call 9643 2222), I can never have enough shades of red!
Take someone you want to impress? The Lui Bar on the 55th floor of the Rialto (525 Collins Street, city) – what spectacular views and cocktails to impress.
Go on your own? The small coffee shop around the corner from my house, 50 Melville (50 Melville Road, Brunswick West, call 0419 339 770). Cute decor, jazz music, coffee – what more can you ask for on your own?
Stay up late? The Alderman (134 Lygon Street, Brunswick East, call 9380 9003) for my night cap glass of cabernet sauvignon or two.
Want to keep secret? The Beaufort (421 Rathdowne Street, Carlton, call 9347 8171) for a pickleback! Sounds disgusting but it’s disgustingly good, a shot of Jameson whisky followed by a pickle brine chaser.
